I was watching a clip from the Glazer/ Kennedy Super Conference and my mentor Alexandria Brown was presenting on stage and she reminded me of a concept that is super helpful for all business owners. So often as a business owner you get overwhelmed by everything that’s falling on your shoulders and really, the simple answer is to go through your business and “automate, delegate, or delete.”
Let’s take a look at these 3 strategies separately to see what they’re really about and how you can apply them to your business:
- Automate- This means that you’ve figured out the formula for a certain task and you put it on auto pilot so that you don’t have to do it anymore. Look at your daily tasks, is there something that you could automate? Even consider the time that it takes you to pay your monthly bills- could you do this through automatic payments and use the time more wisely?
- Delegate- When you delegate something you assign it to someone else who is then responsible for not only completing the task but also managing the task. It’s so much easier to delegate a task if you provide the person with a step by step guide as to how you want the task completed. Or you could show them the area of responsibility and ask them to come up with a proposed process for you to approve. Either way, it’s getting it off your desk and making room for more income generating activities
- Delete- Are there tasks that you’re doing in your business that you’ve forgotten why you’re doing in the first place? I keep a very careful eye on what’s bringing in business and what isn’t. If something isn’t performing then I delete it. Why waste your time on that task if it’s not creating a good return for you. Time to delete it
Ciara’s Rockstar Wedding Planner Advice
Make a list of all the tasks that you do daily, monthly, and yearly. Figure out if they could be automated, delegated or just plain deleted. Then you’ll free up a bunch of time for the more important income generating activities that you should be spending your time on. The spring is a great time to run through your business and do a bit of housekeeping but this is a task that you should do anytime of the year that you’re feeling overwhelmed.
