Sy and I are thrilled with the new nanny we hired for Declan. With an extra set of hands (and eyes) around I’m able to still be the mother I want to be for him…and show him as he grows up how mommies can be incredibly successful at the same time!

I feel so blessed to have designed my life to be the way it is now. But it wasn’t always like this…

At first I struggled quite a bit. Then I discovered there were specific steps to take to become a high end wedding planner.

Well he’s arrived! On July 14th at 1:55pm Declan Rhys Glendon Daykin was born and Simon and I couldn’t be happier. My little sweetheart is sitting on my lap as I type this letter to you. He’s so fun but definitely an adjustment. Hats off to all you mompreneurs out there. It’s not easy to have a baby and run a business that’s for sure! But I’m learning as I go and I’ll be sure to share what works for me and what doesn’t as I go along.
 
Today is also my 5 year wedding anniversary with Simon. A lot has happened in the last 5 years. It was when we were planning our wedding that I was inspired to begin my wedding planning business and we’re now in our 6th year of business and both working for the company. It’s pretty cool to look back and see the milestones of our business stack up. I’m excited to reach new highs as this year continues.
 
I’ve been singing Declan songs to help him fall asleep. As a big fan of musicals a lot of our lullabies are from shows and movies I watched as a kid. I’ve been singing him “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music and it made me think about what my favorite things as a wedding planner are. Plus with Declan being here I really have to say there are certain things in my business that I’m realizing I just couldn’t run it without, especially with this little baby sleeping on my lap most of the time!

It’s June and that means June weddings which in Calgary where I live means it could rain on your wedding day. We do have a beautiful summer solstice wedding coming up that I’m bringing in fabulous Plum Dahlia BBJ Linens for…. Oooo love BBJ and their creative patterns and textures! We have another wedding where the bride has purchased pin wheels from etsy for her bridesmaids to carry down the aisle instead of flowers. I love unique wedding ideas and I find that June brides have a really fresh take on their weddings.

It’s May and it’s still snowing in Calgary! I planned a surprise birthday party for my sister last week and convinced my Dad to open the outdoor pool early… well the surprise was a success and we went swimming despite the spring blizzard outside!

I’m hoping the weather will clear up soon as I have some May brides counting on outdoor weddings. Of course we have a back up plan but I’d love for them to have pretty spring outdoor weddings.

This weekend my in-laws are flying into town for my baby shower. I’m now 30 weeks pregnant, time sure does fly by doesn’t it?! I had a hilarious encounter with a woman that I think will make you laugh…

She said “Have you been nesting?”

My response: “Well, I nest a little differently than other women. I’ve been hiring new staff, getting my team really strong to run things while I’m on maternity leave, creating systems and processes, and focusing on bringing in income streams that don’t depend on me.”

Her response: “Oh… I just folded baby clothes a lot.”

Becoming a Mompreneur is definitely changing the way I do things.

I’ve nicknamed my little bundle “forced delegation.” But just imagine for a moment that you couldn’t do everything that you used to do for whatever the reason, what steps would you take to make sure your business still ran with less involvement from you. I think it’s a helpful exercise for any wedding planner to ponder as it will help you see how important it is to get everything out of your head and onto paper so you can delegate.

I’ve been really busy lately! We started up the new 6 Figure Wedding Planner Club with 2 levels- Rockstar Wedding Planner Legends and Rockstar Wedding Planner Hall of Famers. These planners are such amazing people and I’m having so much fun coaching them to grow their businesses. We’re having our first retreat in May in Canada and I can’t wait to get them all together for powerful in person masterminding!

As you know I’m also expecting a little boy in July. For a lot of planners baby means a hiatus when it comes to growing the business. But instead for me it was a sign that I needed more help so that the business will continue to grow and attract clients while I’m on maternity leave. We went on a hiring spree and I’ve brought on 3 new team members. We now have total of 9 people on our team. And to think just a couple of year’s ago it was just me and a virtual assistant! When you put your mind to it your business can grow really quickly!

I’ve also been working with Michele DeKinder-Smith of Jane Out of the Box to help you discover what type of Jane you are. She’s created this really cool survey that you go through (it only takes about 10 minutes) and it tells you what type of entrepreneur you are. You might think – why do I care?
